Feature Set:  

NTI Backup Now has quick, step-by-step guides to walk you through backup and restore tasks. You can specify exactly what folders to backup and filter out the rest, and you can easily change your backup storage location (some software doesn't allow this). NTI Backup Now did an excellent job comparing data for accuracy, and you can opt to check the integrity of each backup automatically. You are also able to backup your Outlook and Outlook Express emails.

Though NTI Backup Now cannot make an image backup, you can buy an Add-on through New Tech Infosystems to manage image backups and create a bootable recovery disk.

Ease of Use:  

Installation and setup of NTI Backup Now went well. The opening screen was welcoming and intuitive; we could see exactly where to go next. Steps are clearly marked along the side screen, but visual icons for the same tasks (and more) appeared along the top menu. You simply cannot get lost in this backup program.

Any backing up data requires you to make some technical choices; we were impressed with the way NTI Backup Now presented these. Instead of bombarding us with information, this program only revealed information relevant to our circumstances.

For example, if you choose to make a full backup, the extra choices you'd have to make for a partial backup are visible but grayed out because they are irrelevant. If you choose a partial backup, the brief descriptions that appear for each type (incremental or differential) are so well written that even beginners can understand which choice will fit their needs.

Automatic backup scheduling is simple, as is copying to an optical disc (CD or DVD). We found no faults in NTI Backup Now operation.

Backup/Restore:  

The entire backup and restore process was smooth and fast. NTI Backup Now backed up and then restored all our original file paths to the folders, the folders themselves, and all the files. We didn't have a single error or complaint.

Help/Documentation:  

The NTI Backup Now help files are well-written and complete. New Tech Infosystems addresses relevant topics and you can find them quickly with the search tool. They even mention specific system requirements for NTI Backup Now—something we weren't successful in finding on other backup programs.

Summary:  

Because NTI Backup Now is simple to use yet effective; it's a perfect choice for computer novices. Seasoned professionals will also find NTI Backup Now! capable of meeting their backup needs, but may prefer the greater feature power available in the #1 rated Genie Backup Manager.
