I have a small business that requires reliable backup of all customer data, as well as the ability to recover a former version of a file or data base. I have tried other small business backup apps, but Genie Backup Manager, cannot be improved for my purposes.
GBM allows complete control over what to back up, where to back up, type of backups (full or incremental, purge settings, specific scheduling from each hour to monthly, email notification, and more). I run multiple user designed backups, from daily e-mail to various differing user defined document backups, scheduled to run anywhere from every two hours for constant usage data bases, to monthly backups of archives. On the occasions I have had to restore prior file versions, GBM works accurately, quickly, and with no noticeable effect on system performance. The restore function allows restoration to a different location, which is very useful for comparing new and older file versions.
The System Restore CD is easy to create, and I had the unfortunate opportunity to use it when I lost my XP boot hard drive. It worked just as advertised. I now run a RAID 1 array on my SYSTEM HDD as I believe this to be a superior setup for the operating system HD. But for your documents HD, backing up is necessary in order to restore old versions when necessary. (If a file becomes corrupted or inadvertently deleted on a RAID 1, this error will be on both HDDs.
From my own experience GBM provides a much superior solution to my backup needs than Acronis Home. The Acronis technical support never could get their product to perform unattended backups without hanging. Genie Backup Manager is a superior product in both its design and functionality.
